Confidential CFO tooling

A financial coverage cockpit for the private use of a CFO.

context

A nonprofit working in child education in South Asia. Unlike a grantmaker, it is an operating organisation: it does not disburse a fund, it runs programmes with fixed, non-negotiable staff costs, so it has to re-raise its operating budget every year to keep those people in place. That money arrives mostly as restricted, time-limited grants spread across corporate social responsibility budgets, foundations, private donors, and an overseas diaspora vehicle.

the thinking

The person who owns this risk is the CFO, not the development team, and her problem is different from a typical fundraising gap: forward revenue continuity against fixed, non-negotiable salary costs. She needs to know how much of next year's committed cost is already secured, where the gaps are, which multi-year grants are about to roll off with nothing lined up to replace them, and how concentrated the funding base has become on a handful of donors. None of that sits in one place today.

what i made

The centrepiece is the Coverage cockpit: the specific numbers a CFO needs before she can sign off on next year's hiring plan.

Coverage view

Forward funding coverage by year and by cluster.

Cliff radar

Flags grants ending soon with no replacement identified.

Concentration view

Shows how much of the funding base rests on a handful of funders.

Matched prospects on every gap

Every gap the cockpit surfaces links straight into a matched, well-timed prospect with a credible way in, so it does not just flag the hole, it points at how to fill it.

Government partnership tab

Tracks agreement status, renewal risk, and partial salary-reimbursement commitments, because under that model the government is landlord, regulator, and funder at once, a layer no generic fundraising tool would think to include.

The anchor thread

A legally mandated corporate social responsibility pool for education, which refills every year by statute rather than by goodwill, and is therefore the one funding source that can be planned against.

Every datapoint is tagged Public source or Illustrative, and no fabricated funding signal is ever attached to a real, named individual. The cockpit stays private, since it carries real financial data, and was demoed directly to the CFO rather than published as a public walkthrough. The next concrete step is wiring it to the actual grant ledger.

from the live build

The tool states its own job: four things that usually sit in four different heads and spreadsheets, answered in one place.
